, the story behind how these incredibly cute hats are made is both meaningful and resonating. Turns out shopping for adorable accessories is both fun, ethical and rewarding. When you learn the story behind how these beautiful handmade creations come to life, you’ll fall even more in love.
Our feather embroidered Straw Fedora was borne from a collaboration with between Indego Africa and Prymal . Indego Africa is a forward thinking nonprofit social enterprise & lifestyle brand that supports women in Rwanda through economic empowerment and education. Prymal, an ethically sourced accessories brand, believes in creating high quality goods while strengthening the local economy and preserving the environment. Together, they created our handwoven Straw Fedora, that brings economic empowerment and education to Indego Africa’s female artisans and fair trade wages and sustainability to local Ecuador Artisans.
The Handmade Process
Artisan Impact
Indego Africa is dedicated to creating a positive impact for their female Artisans through breaking intergenerational cycles of poverty by focusing on economic empowerment and education. By providing their Artisan’s multiple platforms through which to sell their creations, on IndegoAfrica.org and through both physical boutiques and online boutiques like Seek Wander Share , Indego Africa is creating an environment in which their female Artisans can flourish as independent businesswomen and spread development throughout their communities. In addition, through pooling 100% of profits from sales, like those made on Seek Wander Share, donations and grant support, Indego Africa is able to fund job skills training programs in business management, technology, entrepreneurship, and English & Kinyarwanda literacy.
With a focus on supporting fair trade for their local Artisans, of which 90% are women, Prymal is creating economic opportunity with healthy work environments and sustainable, locally sourced materials for Ecuador Artisans. Prymal is committed to preserving the dignity of the Artisan’s traditional technique through 100% handmade straw hats.
