After recently watching the movie Amy (which was powerful, eye opening and down right sad), I’ve decided I want to be better at taking more photos and videos of not only the big moments of my life but also the every day occurrences that may seem boring and mundane. I’m not here to critique the movie but I made an observation while watching the film – pre stardom, Amy had quite a bit off video footage and it was endearing to watch her grow up in front of the camera. With this being said, I want to make a conscious effort to document my memories by both printing photos and making videos. Sure, I have a crap ton of photos on my phone and saved on my computer but I want to physically hold them (like the good ‘ol days) and create compelling albums that I can share down the road with my loved ones.
Why do I want to do this? Well first of all, I have the worst memory ever. I need to write everything down or reference a photo just to remember an event happening. I’m so tired of hearing all these stories being told to me through the eyes of my friends/family. I want to be able to recollect the time I did karaoke to TLC’s No Scrubs on a random weekend. Second, I’m always about being present in the moment that I rarely take out my phone or camera to capture an image. I have been quoted saying, “I’ll have the memory up in my head.” Fast forward three months later and someone is telling me, “Remember the time when you did karaoke to TLC’s No Scrubs.” No, I don’t remember that time! Hence where a photo or video will jog that memory. Lastly, I have a blog so you think it would be second nature for me to take photos of everything. Well, I’m here to officially declare that statement sadly untrue.
With all this being said, I’m going to take the time to make those memories into printed photos I can see and touch because I’m over having the images stored in my phone. I’ve recently discovered an inspiring company that creates photo books and so much more, Artifact Uprising . They create the most beautiful albums, prints and gifts with their easy-to-use online design or iPhone app. It’s an amazing way to share your photos and experiences and I have no doubt in my mind that I will now remember the good times including my travels, family weddings, concerts, and everything in between. I love the idea of telling my story through my eyes and having those treasured memories live on in a customized photo book laying on my coffee table for guests to peruse.
This creative company believes in community and is passionate about what they do! It’s so refreshing to have your memories off your device and into your life in a tangible manner. Plus to top it all off, they are made in the USA, environmentally friendly, and use recycled paper to create products with purpose. Obsessed! I can’t wait to order my first album and share with my friends and family. I also told my sister she needs to do this for wedding next year and when Jennifer gets back from Italy, I’ll let her know she can capture her journey in one album. I have a feeling this will be my newest addiction! Tell me what you think about taking more photos in your life and ways that you get them off your phone and into your hands!
