bellagio Italy, travel guide bellagio italy

We couldn’t be more excited to share with you Seek Wander Share’s FIRST EVER travel guide! Jennifer recently took a two week vacation with her dad in Italy and Bellagio, Italy was her first stop. We’ll share where to stay, play and eat so you can plan your own Bellagio getaway!

Right away, you’ll notice that Bellagio is an adorable quaint resort town nestled into the side of the mountains with incredibly stunning views of the alps from every angle and charming cobble stone streets. Bellagio feels less like a tourist destination and more like your second home!

Where to Stay

We stayed at Hotel Bellagio, a lovely little hotel right off the main avenue that take you to the water, restaurants and shops. Because Bellagio is a smaller town off the beaten tourist path a bit, the shops here are very authentic and can be trusted to have great quality items, although a bit more expensive! Another thing, we drove to Bellagio and with the roads being as TINY and winding as they were in hindsight we totally would have taken a train! You can catch one in Milan, which was where we flew into, at the Milan’s Stazione Centrale!

How to Play

One of my favorite activities we did in Bellagio was renting a little motor boat and taking a tour of lake Lago! Now you can rent an amazingly beautiful wooden boat for a private tour right off the main Bellagio street, but it will run you about 200 Euros PER HOUR! I don’t know about you but this girl’s on a budget! So, not to be discouraged, I asked around and the lovely man working the front desk of Hotel Bellagio arranged for us to take out a motor boat from Punta Spartivento. Not only is this option more affordable, and just as fun, but its also a truly private experience with out any guide, just you and your group on the boat! I loved this because we could go to all these little swimming coves and drive where ever we wanted with out a rush or care.We definitely jumped in the water and it was pretty cold, but it felt amazing as Italy was going through a heat wave when we arrived! Just our luck!

Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to go to Villa Serbelloni’s gardens but we really wish we had and by we I mean me as you can imagine my dad would be happy to walk around gardens but like isn’t absolutely torn up about not getting a chance to go haha! The only reason why we didn’t was because time limitations and we decided to go boating with our one full day in Bellagio and also because Bellagio was the first stop on our trip we were very jet lagged and still adjusting with lots of naps. Another great reason to stay in Bellagio is that because it situated right in the middle of Lake Como’s “Y” formation, you can also take a ferry over to Varenna or Tremezzina! Villa del Balbianello, a gorgeous James Bond villa is a common tourist spot that can be seen via ferry as well as the only island in the lake, Isola Comacina, which has a stunning restaurant with a six course menu that hasn’t changed since 1947 for all my foodies out there.

Where to Eat

Ristorante la Punta, a fabulous little restaurante with amazing views, is perfect for lunch before your private motor boat ride departing from Punta Spartivento, but would also be amazing for dinner as you have incredible views of both sides of Lake Como from the patio. For more casual and local dining, visit La Bellagina. My dad and I went here the first night because we really wanted to do something casual and local and believe me we weren’t disappointed! The service was amazing, the view is from up on a hill so you can enjoy the amazing breeze and cool air while sipping prosecco. I had the 4 cheese pizza and was in heaven lol. Another favorite of ours was Albergo Suisse because it was literally at the footsteps of our hotel and on a few nights they had a live jazz band which was perfect! My personal favorite was Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni. You can grab drinks before dinner at their rooftop patio while enjoying a view of the alps and the Tremezzina side of the lake. I love seafood and when I find myself in a town like Bellagio I can’t resist having seafood the entire time; Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni’s pasta with clams was incredibly simple, fresh and delicious but make sure you also order the tiramisu!

If you have any questions about Bellagio leave a comment! I would love to try to help!
