To Peel or Not to Peel, That is THE Question

I’ve long been a gal who’s approached her skin care regime with a pretty simple mindset, save you a short bout of laser treatments as a pimply and self-conscious 14 year old high school freshman. But for the most part, I let my skin do you. Growing up, I didn’t get that moment where my grandmother or mother sat me down and told me all the great secrets of glowing perfect skin and meaning of life. So I’ve kept it super simple in terms of skin care all my life but as of lately I’ve been wanting to mix it up and try something new because I have a confession to make…

As a young woman in college I was super ridiculous and out of my mind and actually used tanning beds. YES. I know, please, it’s like horrible. I WOULD NEVER now obviously, but I was young and thought I could like Jessica Alba instead of a very orange and skin damaged version of myself! I recently have started to take greater interest in my skin, I don’t know if it’s because I’m becoming more responsible or more vain but whatever the case I’ve noticed that my skin could definitely use some TLC. I thought I would start small and with every well intentioned idea that begins off with this idea of doing something small, I ended up at home with a skin peel kit courtesy of our friends at Ulta Beauty ! Before you get scared off by the idea of the words skin and peel being used so closely together, take a deep breath, and ask yourself “would Jennifer lead me astray?”, the answer is no.

The Exuviance Performance Peel kit says it will do a whole lot of things, including making you look poreless, giving you skin as soft as a baby’s bottom, turning your face into a canvas so clear, bright, glowy, even and renewed that friends, family and handsome prince charmings will loose all ability to say no or resist you giving you the world at the mere sight of you. To which I said, “UHHHH, YEAH!”. Seriously, though, it did just about that. Its a kit of pure skin rehab even for the girls who were absolutely out of their mind and actually used a tanning bed on their beautiful young pale skin. Inside, you’ll find two types of pads, the first one they call the activator pad and this is the peel part, otherwise known as the part that turns you into the butterfly your skin was always mean to be before you scorched it in a tanning booth or  whatever it is that you did to it to want to try a peel lol. The second pad is for neutralizing part. I like to think of this pad as the cocoon kind of step as you do it after the peel part and without it you couldn’t turn into that butterfly.

Ok here’s the break down: it’s a six week kit, so like any good relationship, take your time and ease into it. You can use the peel up to two times per week, but for me the first week I just used it once. Also like any good relationship, be patient with your skin and make sure you listen to it! If you need moisturizer, moisturize! As a side note from me personally, if you generally use some sort of acne cream regularly in your skincare routine, you may want to scale that back, for example if you use it every night I would wait and not use it for a couple days after the peel because you don’t want to dry out or stress your skin and then gradually start using it again, because well you have a new baby soft layer of skin thats why! Overall I’m loving this product and have a few weeks left of the kit and can’t get enough.

So I ask you, do you want to have poreless skin as soft as a baby’s bottom,  and turn your face into a canvas so clear, bright, glowy, even and renewed that friends, family and handsome prince charmings will loose all ability to say no or resist you, giving you the world at the mere sight of you? You’re in luck my beautiful friends because not only does Exuviance Performance Peel kit actually exist but starting Sept. 19th this peel and the ENTIRE Exuviance line is 25% off at Ulta Beauty ! Happy skin peeling and prince charming hunting y’all!

I am ALL about skin care. The best decision I ever made for my skin was to go all natural, and although it took some months to balance out, I now go on a daily basis without any foundation or powder at all, something I honestly thought I would NEVER be able to do with my old acne issues and hyperpigmentation (and yes I used to use tanning beds in college too, the horror!).

One of my absolute favorite face masks that I use at least once weekly is sour cream, turmeric powder, and honey. Super simple (cheap too!) and you wouldn’t believe how bright and light your skin looks after :)

It can be so hard to get my skin to cooperate with me at times! I usually keep a very light makeup routine half out of concern for my skin and half out of time constraints lol! But when I do have breakouts I have to try really hard to let them breathe and not just cover them up because it’s an evil circle of events if I pack on the concealer, it only gets worse!! I’ll definitely try that face mask when I get a Sunday to relax! Thanks for sharing!
