I want to talk about the importance of nipping and tucking and how much of a game changer it can be! A nip here can emphasize your best features and a tuck there can conceal parts that you’re not so thrilled about or wanting to emphasize (ladies we’ve all been there!). But my god, what ever you do, MAKE IT THOUGHTFUL. Don’t rush into it and take your time, because if you nip too much, you’re not going to be able to undue it because unfortunately my time travel machine won’t be ready for you until 2090.
Also find a trusted professional! This could be the most important part! If you don’t have a professional which whom you can have lengthy discussions on exactly how you want this to look and that to appear, where both parties fully understand expectations, well let’s just say it’s a recipe for disaster and this is your life we’re talking about ladies! I mean it wouldn’t be the end of the world, but once you find that special garment you sure don’t want some hack to tailor it all wrong and leave it worse that when you brought it to them! Oh did you think I was talking about something else?? Good golly people!
This Theory dress is an item I fell in love with while working at Nordstrom and still in possession of an incredible Nordstrom discount (those were the days). It was a tad big in the waist and overall bodice, but I was in love and there was no turning back. I also recognized the versatility and amazing quality of the dress. Keep in mind girlies, a beautifully made work of art does not a wondrous tailor with a mediocre garment make. In other words, if you bring a tailor a schlubbub garment, don’t expect them to work crazy magic. The fabric of the garment itself can be a huge limitation sometimes so keep this in mind! Anyways, I had a fabulous Nordstrom tailor work her magic on this dress about two years ago and I couldn’t be more happy that I took the plunge, bought it and got it nipped and tucked. I knew the investment of having this piece tailored would pay off and it has! I’ve worn it to job interviews, work events with my dad, funerals, holiday parties and appointments where I must look expensive and put together. So when in doubt and when in love but also when slightly not so great fitting, don’t be afraid to tailor! It’s a wonderful and important tool every girl should have in her toolbox of fashion! I included some really amazing dresses from Theory below that I’m obsessed with because I’m a crazy online shopper who fills her cart and then abandons it because I’m a little crazy and a lot on a budget like that.
Can’t wait to get back from Italy and share all my photos with you all! Arrivederci a presto!
