Gingham. The checked print that’s best known for picnics, your mom in the 50s and taking over most men’s closets in just about every color combination imaginable. I’ve always thought you CAN teach old pups new tricks, which is why I’m get glammy with it and taking my gingham topshop crop top (say that 7 times) to a really cool house party that reminds me of that movie, Only Lovers Left Alive. Who knew places in East Austin looked so much like mysterious parts of Chi-town. (That might have been a silly question but whatever.)

Gingham has been experiencing the equivalent of that kid in highschool who was pretty cool in middle school but has been coasting ever since and then BOOM! Suddenly they get a boat and they’re like the coolest kid anyone has known all year long, and everyone wants to tag gingham in their facebook photos. Ok, so that might have been an exaggeration but gingham is hot y’all. Gone are the days that you would only sit on it for a luxe picnic in the park in the sweltering heat! Not only in gingham what I would consider a classic American print but its rather flattering and can be found in some really fun color combos! Plus it’s like a verrrry subtle nod to menswear but in the cutest way possible! For this gingham crop top I paired it back to a dressier fit and flare body con skirt from BCBG that is a core item in my closet. When I worked at Nordstrom and had to get dressed up for work on more occassions than not, this bad boy was my go to skirt because the shape is so incredibly flattering and when paired with a more casual top it gives off that vibe of “this is my street model look that I threw on after I walked for Tom Ford, but I didn’t because I’m really 5’4 1/2 inches tall”. And pairing this skirt with gingham balances out the fanciness of the skirt, the perfect combo for an adorable house warming party. Let’s also note that this straw bag is my newest obsession and my ONE item that I’ve bought FOR A MONTH IN A HALF. I’m very proud of myself y’all. You can’t show up to a home warming party without flowers for the host and a bottle of wine for you. To share of course!
