Why I Returned My Dream Shoes

Last week I was browsing Shopbop, as I often do, and I did something impulsive. When I saw that my dream shoes, the Stuart Weitzman Nudist smooth leather in the nude color, were down to the LAST pair and it just happened to be my size, I bought them. It’s my birthday month after all and I had been wanting them for what seemed like forever, but is closer to a year, but mostly I just did it, because I wanted to treat myself for my 25th birthday.

Shopbop ships super fast, so in two days they were on my doorstep. They were beautiful, just how I had imagined them. I tried them on and they fit perfectly. Thing is, they were $430 dollars. Now I earn what I would consider a pretty comfortable amount for a 24 going on 25 year old and don’t feel stretched to make ends meet. BUT, staring at these shoes that I had been dreaming about seeing on my feet, it just didn’t feel as exciting and thrilling as I thought. Not only that, but I kept thinking of the savings goals I had set for myself at the beginning of the year, as well as to travel more, and I’ll be honest with y’all, I’ve sucked at saving as much as I wanted. I couldn’t help but think of what else could I do with $430 or how great I would feel saving $430. Now if they were $230, this would be a done deal or even $300.

Here’s the other reason: I’m rough on my shoes. Especially my sandals. My girlfriends will tell you I wear open toed sandals 12 out of 12 months of the year, and I walk everywhere in them. For as much as I had spent on these Stuies, I would be nervous about scuffing them and wearing them, which isn’t how you should feel about a pair of shoes! Well, let me clarify, if I made twice as much, and went to more sit down events or nights when I went out felt more like sit down activities then sure, I wouldn’t be concerned. But I’m almost 25, so you imagine how most of nights out don’t involve sitting for long periods of time, not scuffing my beautiful shoes. On top of that, I don’t go out “out” very often. So when would I wear these beautiful gorgeous $430 sandals?

So when I finally started to consider if this was what I really wanted, I imagine returning them and how I would feel. This usually tells me exactly what I should do. And the thought of walked them down to the post office and sending them on their way didn’t make me feel like I was sending a little duckling away. So this morning, I packed them up and shipped them off. They were fun, beautiful and I could have kept them, but we were mismatched from the start despite being perfect on paper . I’m still on the hunt for the perfect nude delicate ankle strap sandals and I think these ones from Schutz are looking like it! I hope y’all can relate to this post and if y’all are in the same boat as me, still looking for their nude strappy sandal sole mates, check out my top picks below!
