I’m such a believer in women empowering women and lifting each other’s spirits so I love to go to events based around women supporting each other. Luckily enough, I live in Austin and have been able to attend SXSW. The one event that I did not want to miss this year was Neiman Marcus’s Make Some Noise . It was filled with beautiful ladies from the inside out discussing how they are leading the way forward for women around the world.

With impressive and influential panel discussions, I heard various celebrities and artists tell their personal journey of life and shared how they “made some noise.” The roster of inspiring women included Freida Pinto, Rosario Dawson, Rebecca Minkoff, Laura Dern, Katie Lee, and so many more. I was touched by the words of the passionate fashion designer, Rebecca Minkoff . She truly is a driven women who has seen huge successes in the past three years seeing 400+% growth in her business. Holy Moly! How does she keep up?

Her story began as an ambitious young woman who moved to New York with 2 suitcases and nowhere to sleep. Her fearlessness led her to create the amazing brand of Rebecca Minkoff which carries everything from clothing to handbags for women of all ages. Her style is downtown romantic with a little bit of bohemian and a splash of rock n’ roll. When she started, she didn’t know what an LLC, tax ID or really anything on how to start a business, so Rebecca called her brother and he led the way. He believed in her abilities so he moved his family to NYC and helped his sister get everything up and running. Today he is still heavily in  involved while Rebecca runs the design, PR, and marketing aspects of the business.

As an international brand, Rebecca is still down to earth and remembers how it all started and the original inspiration of why she moved to NY. She takes the time to go back to that moment and taps into that strength if she is ever feeling overwhelmed. What really resonated with me was her philanthropic causes to help and empower on a global level. She is partnering with Intel and UN Women to announce an effort to expand a pipeline of female engineers, support positive representations of opportunities for women in technology, and connect women around the world to opportunities to learn and lead through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and care (newsroom.intel.com). That’s so freakin cool!

Like myself, Rebecca also supports women coming together to support positive change and this can be so powerful! She stressed the importance of finding a female mentor within all stages of life and guiding other woman to their path as well. Overall, her success is well deserved and her brand’s growth is due to vision, hard work, and determination. Looks like I’ll be adding more Rebecca Minkoff pieces to my wardrobe!
