Earlier this week, you may have spotted that gorgeous new Tory Burch square ‘robinson’ tote bag that I wore during my denim 2.0 post. I know y’all have a keen eye for that kind of thing and I breifly touched upon the fact that I didn’t buy the bag brand spankin’ new from Tory since the color isn’t a currently carried in-stock standard neutral. Well I’m here to tell you, I shopped a Designer overstock site online and I liked it. I really really liked it.
So here’s the dish. I had previously purchased my trusting Louis Vuitton straight from the boutique in Houston when I was just starting college and the experience was less great. Sure I bought the bag I came for, but for as much dough as I was dropping, I surely didn’t feel like the service was worth it. So this time around, I was much more honest with myself about my budget, I wanted to spend less that $500, and I wanted a bag that would be able to transition all year round with a key feature being handles that weren’t permanently stuck in a upright position (sorry I’m look at you Rebecca Minkoff, even though I do love your bags!!) and a detachable shoulder strap. So with these criteria in mind I started doing some research, see my forever bag picks here , and realized I really loved the Tory Burch square ‘robinson’ but there were two things wrong with this choice. Number one, this bag runs $550, which was over my budget and I wasn’t budging on that. Number two, the only neutral color at the time that I could find was black (afterwards Neiman restocked the tan, happy hunting girls!) and I honestly didn’t think I would wear black as much as I would tan or grey. Thus the dilemma, I wanted the square robinson tote but not for that price and not black.
When I started googling Tory Burch square ‘robinson’ tote, this gorgeous beauty from Designer Hangbag Rescue. I had never shopped there before, but after reading their return and shipping policy, I was open to taking a chance. I understood that the bag had a TINY, like super tiny, darker grey spot on the top of the arm handle and this was the reason for which the bag was on the site. Upon arrival, I inspected the bag and it was just as the pictures had shown, with the only blemish being that tiny spot on the handle, which totally doesn’t even bother me, else I wouldn’t have bought it. It came with all the little clear plastic on all the metal details, with wrapping and the original tory burch bag protector cloth bag.
Would I shop a Designer Discount bag again? YES! absolutely yes! Not only was the bag exactly as I expected it to be, I got an amazing deal at $340 and saved some much needed moola for my Italian vacay, I definitely got a unique color that makes my bag feel more special than what currently on the market and I couldn’t be happier! I don’t feel like I missed out on any “special” experience or sentiment by not buying the bag in store, brand spankin’ new from Nordstrom or Tory either. When it comes down to it, a bag is a bag, and this was wasn’t meant to be a super sentimental experience anyways! I needed a go-to everyday workhorse to give my Louis a little rest on the reg.
Here’s my advice, if you want to save some, but still want quality, if you want designer but also want unique, don’t be afraid to check these kind of sites out but be smart about checking their return and shipping policies. Also look for reviews online too! This can help to ease some of your worries about legitimacy. I’ve rounded up some of my favorites that are currently on Designer Handbag Rescue and Tradsey right now just for fun too!
