Today’s post is all about how indoor greenery can anchor a room and give life to design. I personally have about five orchids in my home and my friends joke that I’m the crazy orchid lady which I take as a total compliment. It’s like saying I’m like Taylor Swift, except orchids instead of cats. I wait quite along time for them to bloom and am trying to coax them to bloom more often, but they really do breath life into my home even between blooms. I pulled most of these photos from our Pinterest design board which was not surprisingly filled with lots of greenery in almost every photo we’ve pinned!
Pick a plant that most importantly makes you happy, and keep the little tag that comes with it. This may seem like a no brainer, but you’d be surprised people. It has a bunch of useful information like how much sunlight it needs, how much you should water it and the best temperature for the plant. Keep in mind which rooms are warmer than others, and vice versa, which rooms get better air flow making them cooler (this is especially important in really hot states or spaces because you can stiffle a plant with too much heat!). It’s also helpful to research which light is better in terms of northwest or south light. This will effect how much sun and heat your plant will get. Once you know what kind of light it needs, find a window or room in your home that meets that criteria! I’ve been thinking of adding a hanging plant of some sort, maybe a fern in the corner of my living room. If and when I do, I’ll share some photos!
