While everyone else is distracted by reality shows and the latest celeb gossip, there are motivated chicks that have their head down and are focused with their eye on the prize. That’s not too say they don’t watch The Bachelor and obsess over T Swift but they are always finding ways to build their own empire. That’s right….dream big ladies. Get inspired by super successful women you admire and find a way to translate that in your life. So, you know the type of woman I’m talking about – super ambitious, always has a plan, and networks like a boss.
If all the above apply to you however you lack networking skills, we got you covered. Networking is super important when you have a goal that you want to achieve and helps connect you with so many people you wouldn’t have met otherwise. First and foremost, you must know that networking events are awkward. Not going to lie or sugarcoat it, they just are. However, I suggest going with a friend , colleague or business partner BUT you must make sure you don’t get stuck talking to them all night.
Be approachable and smile! Seems simple but be aware of your body language and be inviting by making eye contact. Next, start the conversation with asking the individual what brought them there. People love to talk about themselves. No matter how badly you want to stop them mid-sentence and interject, really listen. Find a common interest and ask open ended questions to learn more about this person’s journey. You never know who you will meet. Lastly, make sure you swap contact info if it can benefit in the future. It may seem a bit intimidating but networking events are a great way to grow your contact list. After all, successful people always know how to work the crowd!
