Beauty Edition: What’s in my makeup bag

What's in my makeup bag

As a little girl, I was always fascinated by my mom getting ready in the mornings. She was so beautiful and at my young age I thought she was painting her face. I would with her at the vanity and copy her look. Of course, she looked so put together and I looked like a clown.

As an adult, I’ve learned how to properly apply makeup and no longer worry about looking like a hot mess. I absolutely love cosmetics! To be honest, I wear minimal makeup most days however on special occasions I always get my look done by a makeup artist. Throughout the years, they’ve shared with me their beauty tips and suggested products that work with my skin. I want to share with you, the cosmetics that I think every woman should own.

For the face

I have normal to oily skin and wash my face every morning. After I pat dry, I think its super important to moisturize with a light formula and make sure it has SPF. To apply my foundation, I either use a brush or my fingers and blend well. I have recently came across the BEST foundation ever by Chanel. It’s super lightweight and provides flawless coverage. For under the eyes, I use NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard. It blends so well and covers all imperfections. After that, I use a Chanel press powder (that comes with its own brush) to provide a smooth finish. Lastly, if there is one product you must purchase, buy YSL’s Touche Éclat . It literally makes you look like you’ve had the most restful sleep of your life.

For the Cheeks

Every woman should have Orgasm….ok, get your head out of the gutter! I’m talking about NARS Orgasm blush , a peachy pink with shimmer that has been around forever. It literally looks good on any skin tone. After you apply blush on the apple of the cheeks, I suggest sweeping Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick Compact over the cheeks for a warm glow.

For the Lips

On most days, I keep it super simple with a moisturizing lip balm by Alba Botinca . I love this product because it uses natural plant emollients to protect against drying. On occasions where I want a bold look, I stick to a bright, sexy red lip. NARS’s Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl is incredibly easy to apply and lasts for so long. It’s a must buy beauty product.

For the Eyes

There is nothing sexier than big, dramatic, smoldering eyes. I love heavy eye makeup but on an everyday basis I tone it down. To start, use an eye primer (I use Mary Kay which is not pictured) to help avoid sweaty eyelids. I know….it sounds gross but it happens. Next, sweep a natural color that provides a sheer finish to make your eyes pop. I recommend MAC ‘Mineralize’ Eyeshadow Duo which comes in many color selections. After that is set, with an ever so gentle hand, create a subtle to dramatic line. The best part of this YSL liquid eyeliner is the very fine brush which makes it easy to apply. Lastly, pump up those lashes sista! I apply a gazillion coats of this Chanel mascara for a va-va-voom look. To complete your look, lightly fill in the eye brows with my fav product, Anastasia Brow Wiz (not pictured).

The key to makeup is trying new products until you find what works best for you. Play around with different colors, brands, looks and don’t be afraid to try something new.

Hi Melissa! So funny, you and I literally use almost the same exact products! I’d die with out the YSL Touche Eclat. I’m not even sure what it is– it’s not quite concealer, not quite highlighter, but is totally amazing.

To be honest, I’ve never really tried pressed powder. I feel like I need to try the Chanel kind though!

Hope you’re having a great week.
