I love the holiday season because it means spending time with your friends and family doing the traditions that we’ve all grown up with and fall back in love with every winter. For me, my family gets together here in Austin, Tx. and we exchange stories, sit around the family room catching up on all the things we want to tell each other throughout our days but somehow get lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and responsibilities.
One of my favorite memories from the holidays is curling up on the couch with my dad after all the rest of the family has left and putting on the series The Pacific or The Band of Brothers. I pour myself either a glass of hot chocolate or white wine and throw on my best printed waffle PJ set and snuggle up beside my dog and my dad. He’s right there beside me in his flannels with a big piece pie or a glass of jack. Another favorite tradition or activity that I look forward to during the holidays is spending time with my mom doing jig-saw puzzles and watching crime shows! We both love solving puzzles and can get lost in a bowl of popcorn, a puzzle and an old Law & Order rerun. We chat about work, celebrity gossip, friends and boys, and I absolutely cherish this time with her.
I didn’t talk much about the cute outfit above, but I’ll give you a quick run down, because how could I not? I picked up the red and black cardigan at Target while running errands last week because, well, that’s just what you do when your at Target! The jeans are my go-to medium to light wash Seven skinnies (on sale people!) that go with just about everything and are perfect for when your feeling like all you’ve been wearing is black, grey and super dark blue skinnies all winter. The wash isn’t too light and contrasts a darker top perfectly, like this silky simple Vince top I picked up for a steal at my local Nordstrom Rack. These cut out sandal/booties are old favorites of mine from a special collaboration at Target from all places ( similar black cutout heels here )! This chunky knit scarf from Nordstrom is so soft and the neutral grey goes with any outfit from an all black dressed up look to something more casual like this!
Melissa and I would love to hear all about your holiday traditions both tried and true and brand new! We hope you’ll share some with us in the comments!
