the higher the hair

Hair can be your best accessory: it’s totally unique to you, you can change it, color it, style it and make it different as much or as little as you want! But of course there are always challenges and the grass seems greener on the other side of the hair fence. For me, I have super fine hair and luckily I have a decent amount of it so I do whatever I can to make it appear as full and volumized as possible.

Big, full wavy/curly hair has for my entire life been the epitome of great hair. Melissa is the perfect example! She has great texture, her hair has full body and movement and waves. But it’s so funny because she’ll tell me how lucky I am to have pin straight hair! Such is life lol. Most of the time, I’ll curl my hair because I think it gives it that fuller look and it’s easier to continue to cheat and style a wavy look for a few more days with Not Your Mother’s dry shampoo (my absolute favorite other than good ole fashioned baby powder!) than it is with a straight hair look. My old curling iron of like 6 years recently broke, so I took it as a great opportunity to try the spiral curling irons and I fell in love!

The first couple of times that you use them it will be hard and you probably won’t love it lol BUT don’t give up because when you do get the hang of it around your 4 or 5 try you will LOVE the curl! I bought the Remington 1″-1/2″ size but will be getting the 1″1/2 – 1″ soon because I love them so much.  I feel like the curls last longer, but then again it could also just be my Aquage hair protector and hold spray which I swear by! I can’t rave about this product enough; I’ve been using since I was 15 and my hair stylist recommended it to me. I truly can not live without this product because it keeps my fine hair from getting damaged and also give my hair that texture, volume and hold it needs to keep the curl throughout the day. If I don’t use my Aquage spray , my curls last like 3 hours max, but with it 12 hours easily. Of course if I want to my curls to kind of fall and be really loose, I’ll curl them and then just finish them with the Garnier flexible hold hairspray , which smells amazing.

I’ll share with you a tiny secret, I’ve been coloring my hair sense I was 15!  I go to the same amazing lady since I was 14 years old and since then she’s been suggesting I use Pureology shampoo, which you might balk at upon first glance but hear me out. At first I thought wow, that’s way too expensive and that can’t possibly be worth it. I was wrong and I don’t say that often. To start with, it keeps my color looking amazing even when I go month’s between coloring (EEK!), but most importantly, it keeps my hair super healthy and I can tell when I don’t use it my curl doesn’t last nearly as long either. Which let’s be honest, this is kind super important! If you don’t want splurge on Pureology shampoo and conditioner , and I highly recommend you do and you use both the shampoo and conditioner together, another great option that I usually travel with or buy when I’d rather splurge on clothes that month instead is your basic Pantene volumizing shampoo and conditioner. My other little secret for volume is the Pureology blowdry amplifier which is another product I can’t live without. A little dime size amount goes a long way; just put a dab right on your fingertips and massage into your scalp and roots for victoria secret hair fullness.  If you’re a girl with thin or fine hair and you want volume, body and lift, buy the aquage spray and the blowdry amplifier and you can send me a thank you note later! Seriously though!

When all else fails, I go to the tried and true method of velcro curlers and a little teasing comb. It sounds silly and I don’t want to look straight out of an 80s country music video either but these methods are tried and true for a reason: because they work. I am always looking for new products that work for fine hair though, so if any of you girlies out there know of any products that you use and love, please share them! Don’t keep all the good secrets to yourself! I also can’t stress enough how much I truly use these products. If you ever come to my home, you’ll find I have them strewn about my shower, or on the kitchen counter or in my gym bag. And when I run out of one of them right before an important date, you’ll also see me freaking out. All of these products are items that I personally own and have had so much success with that I only feel it would be SO terrible not to share them with all of you! Looking forward to hearing about all the goodies in your hair drawer at home!
