Pinspiration: The Morrocan Pendant

September 10, 2015

After moving into my new apartment this past month, I have been gathering up inspiration from Pinterest (duh, of course!) and trying different style accents to mix up the hodge-podge that is my design style. I think my design style can best be described as “Natural Travelled Contemporary Dances with Modern” haha! Now you know why I referred to it as hodge-podge. When envisioning my space I like to keep the core elements leaning closer to Modern but have found I love that Contemporary touch in kitchens and bathrooms. But as far as living spaces go, I definitely lean towards a more Modern look. It doesn’t really matter if you lean Modern, Contemporary or even more Traditional, travelled elements can liven up a space and bring in a component that adds unexpected personality, texture and intrigue to your senses.

Fall Shoe Trend We’re Obsessed With: Peep Toe Booties

September 8, 2015

Last year I noticed this trend and was completely enamored, so you can imagine my excitement when I realized the peep toe bootie trend didn’t die last year and is SO MUCH alive still this fall/winter season! For a climate like Texas, where the weather stay super warm all the way into October and easily even the beginning of November, peep toe booties are the perfect way to embrace new fall trends without your little feetsies burning up in the still hot winter sun! You can dress them up for date night out with a higher heel, dress the down for work with suede and lower wooden block heels OR even give your tail gating cowboy boots a MUCH needed rest (am I only one over that southern trend or is it just me??). Here’s our favorites for fall rounded up!

I Regret to inform you: How to deal with rejection

September 4, 2015
quotes about failure

Wow! Lately, I’ve been on a roll. But not the good kind where I find a $20 dollar bill in an old purse or I win a random Instagram giveaway. Instead, doors keep on slamming in my face one right after the other. Those pesky feelings of self-doubt and insecurity have me questioning my abilities non-stop the past few weeks. Will this ever end? Well, if you haven’t guessed it by now, I have been rejected over and over and it’s starting to take its toll (I mean with my level of stress , I feel like I’m an adolescent all over again with these crazy breakouts!) So, simply said – rejection sucks! I’m not being rejected by a guy or something silly like that (wait a minute, that’s not silly at all), but I’m being rejected by employers left and right because I’m on a serious job hunt right now and have been applying and interviewing like crazy. Come to think of it, it’s actually like being rejected by a guy because you get all dressed up for your first date aka “the interview” and then wait around for days upon days to hear back. You either never hear back or the standard, “You’re a great girl but I’m not looking for anything serious right now” aka your skills and qualifications do not match what we are looking for and we regret to inform you that another candidate has been selected…UGH!

Wander to Venice, Italy

August 26, 2015

There’s no place quite like the floating city of light, Venice, Italy. The first time I visited Venice was in 2011 on a college study abroad trip and I was utterly amazing by the wonder that is Venice. Everywhere you look there is a unique nook, a winding path to  tucked away sanctuary and countless picturesque views!

Fall: The Season to Refocus and Rejuvenate Your Wardrobe

August 7, 2015

Fall. The season when the leaves start to change, the unbearable heat becomes a very teeny tiny amount more bearable (who’s joking, there’s really no relief until winter in the south), football season is upon us AND most importantly a fresh start is in the air. What better way to grab the fresh start by the shirt lapels of your closet and say “I’m gonna refocus, refresh and rejuvenate you whether you like it or not!”.

Off The Shoulder Tops Don’t Have to End With Summer

August 3, 2015

I think we can all agree that off the shoulder tops has been the obsession for all of summer for each and every one of us. I’ve probably acquired about 6 off the shoulder tops in the past few months and the last thing I want to do when the summer is over is give up all my favorite summer trends! Because let’s also face it, just because summer technically turns to fall, in Texas the weather is basically exactly the same! Which is perfect for all us girls who want to keep our off the shoulder tops in rotation all fall long. The perfect way to transition your off the shoulder tops and the easiest in my opinion is just keep a scarf handy! If you start to get a little chilly in the evening, you can wrap the scarf around your shoulders in a super chic Aubrey Hepburn kind of way. Or you can just pair your favorite off the should top with some go-to fall staple skinny jeans and a deeper lip. And pronto! Sure fire way to update your favorite off the should top for fall! Check out my favorite off the should tops, deeper lippys and go-to skinny jeans in the shop the post below!

Techie Girl Techie World: Artifact Uprising

July 30, 2015

After recently watching the movie Amy (which was powerful, eye opening and down right sad),  I’ve decided I want to be better at taking more photos and videos of not only the big moments of my life but also the every day occurrences that may seem boring and mundane. I’m not here to critique the movie but I made an observation while watching the film – pre stardom, Amy had quite a bit off video footage and it was endearing to watch her grow up in front of the camera. With this being said, I want to make a conscious effort to document my memories by both printing photos and making videos. Sure, I have a crap ton of photos on my phone and saved on my computer but I want to physically hold them (like the good ‘ol days) and create compelling albums that I can share down the road with my loved ones.

I’ll Just Take a Nip Here and a Tuck There

July 29, 2015

I want to talk about the importance of nipping and tucking and how much of a game changer it can be! A nip here can emphasize your best features and a tuck there can conceal parts that you’re not so thrilled about or wanting to emphasize (ladies we’ve all been there!). But my god, what ever you do, MAKE IT THOUGHTFUL. Don’t rush into it and take your time, because if you nip too much, you’re not going to be able to undue it because unfortunately my time travel machine won’t be ready for you until 2090.

#OnRepeat

July 27, 2015
python print silk dress

Happy Monday y’all! I had a tiring but fun, productive weekend and as always this gorgeous python print dress made an appearance. I’ve seriously worn this dress (old from Found Boutique in Austin) once a weekend for the past few weeks! Luckily, I have not gotten tired of it because it’s the perfect look for brunching, lounging, sipping cocktails, running errands – you name it and I’ve worn it there. With the hot, hot, hot weather here, I want to wear loose fitting dresses to prevent any sweat stains (I know it’s gross but it happens to everyone) and be as comfortable as possible. Typically I’m wearing flats like these new slip-on sandals from BC Footwear that I’m obsessed with but the beauty of this dress is that you can add wedges or strappy sandals and be ready for GNO. What are your summer staples that you wear #onrepeat? I know I can’t be the only one who has a favorite outfit!

Closet Confessions

Dress Adelante Boutique | Earrings Suzanna Dai | Clutch Adelante Boutique ( similar ) | Shoes Michael Kors ( similar )

I bought this adorable mod shift dress with nowhere to wear it to but I just knew I needed it in my closet. Am I the only person guilty of that? Doubtful! Well here’s a confession, it’s been hanging there for quite sometime because truth be told, I don’t have that many places to wear it to until one day my sis was over looking at my closet and fell in love with the dress. She immediately said that she wanted me to wear it to her wedding! I thought, “Well perfect, I finally have somewhere to wear it to but the wedding is so far away – it’s next spring!” Now, it’ll be hanging there and I hope I still like it at that point but I so badly wanted to shoot it for the blog NOW. I’m also holding off on wearing it yet because I know once March 2016 arrives and it’s already been worn a few times I’m gonna feel like it’s not new any more….#girlproblems. My sister’s wedding is gonna be super casual and she doesn’t really want me wearing a typical “bridesmaids” dress so this works just right b/c the colors coordinate perfectly with her color scheme and compliment the venue – St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort in Puerto Rico . So here’s to the dress that will be hanging in my closet for seven more months!

Summer Beauty Essentials

July 23, 2015
summer beauty products

The dead heat of summer is upon us and we have a good month left over of 100° weather in Austin, Tx. With the heat wave in full swing, I’ve been spending my free time near water trying to cool down! I’m not the only one right? Lazy Sunday’s by the pool are always a good idea. But with all the sun exposure, I still want to look good and protect my skin at the same time from all the harmful UV rays. That’s why you should have a summer beauty regimen that differs from other seasons. Y’all, the number one sign of skin aging is too much sun exposure so make sure you protect that mug. I’m not an expert but after all, many people mistake me for being younger than my age. I attribute that compliment which is warranted any day of the week to lots of H2O, sunscreen and lucky genes. Plus when I’m in the sun I always have a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses. So I’ve gathered up a few of my fav summer beauty products that you should def try out.

The Simple White Tank Goes Out on a Hot Date

July 22, 2015
simple white tank for date night

Yesterday I shared my secret obsession with white tops and how they make the foundation of my wardrobe for practically any occasion especially food truck hopping. Today, my favorite white tank is taking our relationship to the next level and we’re going out on a hot date together. See the thing I love most about my partner in crime is that it’s down for anything and can easily go from food truck hopping to a hot date at one of my favorite Austin eateries, Sway. I mean come on, isn’t that like the number one criteria girls look for in a beau for life? undoubtedly, yes.

The Simple White Tank Goes Food Truck Hopping

July 21, 2015

A few weeks ago Melissa came over first thing in the morning to shoot some early morning shots at my desk for a Techie Girl Techie World post about Tagspire . In a wild turn of events, I was running late and she was on time, so while I continued to get the light right and try not to burn my breakfast, Mel thumbed through my closet. “You have so much new stuff in here!”, “I love this!”, “You have so many amazing white tops, like seriously such a good selection.” Her last comment that morning got me thinking about the fact that I really do have like 10 plus white tops, from silk blouses and linen button ups to the classic white cotton tank.

Work Wardrobe Basics, Without Being Basic

July 20, 2015

With your work wear wardrobe it can be tough to find pieces that make getting ready in the morning and also not looking like you picked your clothes while still half asleep (even if you really did) AND also not be completely basic. Because even if I’m not really quite sure what basic really even means, side note thanks Buzzfeed for trying to clear that up for me anyways though, I know that your work wardrobe should be anything but basic. I mean its already work right? No, need to make it any more cumbersome than it already is ha!

Tardy for the Party

Top Adelante Boutique ( similar ) | Shorts Splendid ( similar ) | Bag Esperos | Bracelets Elle Gray | Shoes Franco Sarto

Here’s a fun fact about me…punctuality is not my strong suit. There you go world, I admit it. Nine times out of ten I’m running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to get out of the house and get to where I need to go. I tell my friends that my tardiness comes from the fact that I’m always on island time. My family is from Puerto Rico and every one runs late (its like the norm) and we all just get there when we get there. Life is supposed to slow down if you’re on an island because there shouldn’t be a rush. So I apply that island time to well just about any time in my life and always run late for just about everything in my life, including work (sorry employer), parties, appointments, and probably my own funeral. I’ve always admired the speech given by Travis on Clueless when he was awarded the trophy for most tardy’s in a semester (HAHAHA.) I mean, he gets it. There so much that goes on behind the scenes of why you’re running late.

Because of this, I’ve had to get verrrrry creative with my outfits, because let’s face it, even when a gals on a budget, it can be sooo boring to wear the same thing over and over again. So a gals gotta do what a gals gotta do to keep it fresh!
